Sooo, you got the shock mounted on your bike. Well done! But now you`re thinking about the next problem: "where to mount the gas reservoir?" I was thinking the same thing at that point. I heard many suggestions on the message board of GStwin.com, but I got this one all by myself. Probably there are many others who had the same idea, but I didn`t know about those solutions when I was doing this mod. Ok, enough about me. I wanted to start a long explanation here, but I can`t tell you more than the pictures below.

I mounted the gas reservoir behind the right rear fender:

Make sure that when you mount the gas reservoir, the air hose doesn`t get blocked or scratched by parts of your bike. Don`t put that hose near sharp edges, and when you do, protect it with some extra rubber against those sharp edges and the vibrations of the frame. Also make sure the hose doesn`t bend too much. This could cause cracks in the line. Also put some rubber between the reservoir and the frame to protect the reservoir itself against those nasty frame vibrations and to prevent it from cracking and start leaking air. Mount the reservoir as close as possible to the frame, or the fender won`t fit to your bike anymore.

The following pictures show it all:

Frequently asked question:

1) Many people wonder if the sidestand will work. Because the bike slants more after this mod. This will work fine, your bike won`t fall to one side! Don`t worry, but make sure the surface it stands on is OK!

2) Also many people wonder if the centerstand has to be removed after this mod. The answer is no! You can keep it on. The only thing you`ll have to change is the rubber bumper the centerstands leans on when it`s pulled in.

After.

The problem is, after this mod, that this rubber bumper is too short and the centerstand hits the shock linkage instead of the rubber bumper. By extending this rubber bumper with +-1,0cm. you can solve this problem. Your centerstand will be +-1,0cm. closer to the ground though, but you won`t notice this, except when you lean very very very much in corners. I`ve made several knee-downs with my centerstand in the position described above and it didn`t hit the ground, so I think it won`t be a problem.

Good luck!

What you need:

- A GSXR750 shock from a GSXR750 made in the year 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 or 1995

- A good grinding machine (because you need to grind pretty much material away)

- The usual tools

- Some rubber and some tape to protect the air hose

- Some tie-raps or hose clamps (sorry, don`t know the name, see picture)

Cost:

About $50,- depending on the year of the shock and the condition

Time:

Expect to be busy for a day, when you have more experience it will probably be less than a day

Why:

Your bike will get a much better handling. Prevents bottom out (packing), which happens with the oem-shock. More comfort, especially riding with a passenger (subject to shock setting).

Overall:

Normal / Hard
